1. Make sure to pick an auspicious day and a priest for the big day

Talk to a Pandit beforehand to find an auspicious day for the grah pravesh pooja. Few most auspicious days are Vasant Panchami, Akshaya Tritiya, Gudi Padwa, Dussehra . Then there are days like Uttarayana, Holi, Adhikmas and Shraddha Paksha on which grah pravesh should be avoided. Once you settle for a date, try to do the housewarming gathering the same day after pooja. You will, anyhow, have to do the arrangements like invitations for your closed ones, decorating the house, meal planning and other household help.  In fact, you can opt for a more traditional lunch for the day. This will be ideal for both occasions.

Lock your date and the priest to perform the rituals and make a list of all the necessary things needed.

2. Perform grah pravesh poja only after compilation of the house 

Better perform the puja and other rituals only when the farmhouse is complete. We are not talking about the furnishings but the basics like doors and windsor are properly fitted, the walls the paainted and the electrical work is done. This eliminates the needless chaos of cleaning a space repeatedly and is equally comfortable for the host and the guests. Better have some seating area prepared beforehand and a bed as you might need to spend the night in your farmhouse after the pooja. Pack a few essentials and medicines for the day to avoid last minute rush. 

3. Cleanliness and purifying

Welcoming the deity, elders and other guests, in a clean and purified home is not only just necessary but is peaceful and pride-inspiring for the host. Clean the farm thoroughly, wash the floors using salt water to wipe away all the negative energy from the farmhouse. Do clean the backyard, the green space, and the entrance. You should begin landscaping your garden at least a month in advance so that anyone visiting can see the true beauty of your property. The kitchen and restrooms should be thoroughly cleaned and well-stocked with necessary supplies. Include some outdoor furniture for your visitors.

4. Decorate the house to welcome health and prosperity 

The main door is the entry point for not just people but also health and prosperity ans is the main face of Vastu Purush and hence is called Simha Dwar. Make this Dwar attractive and welcoming with traditional rice flour rangoli adding beautiful colours. You can also make Goddess Lakshmi's feet on the door's sides. Draw a swastika on the door to bring good luck. Decorate the house with ‘Toran’ of fresh marigold flowers and Mango leaves.  These are known to have the ability to absorb negative energy. 5. Make a temple in the house

On the day of Griha Pravesh puja, build a temple in your home. According to Vastu, the temple should be located in the northeast corner of the house, and the images and idols of Gods should be placed in the east-facing direction of your home. 

6. Performing Puja and other rituals

A Shankh should be blown enthusiastically during pooja rituals because it is known to spread distressing vibrations. Do the main entrance puja and enter the farmhouse with your right feet along with all your closed ones. Do the ganesh puja, Vastu Dosh puja, and Navgraha Shanti puja followed by a Havan; the havan smoke has healing ingredients that eliminate any evil energy and fills the house with positive vibes. Another important Griha Pravesh ritual is to boil milk on the day of the housewarming ceremony. On Puja day, it is believed that boiling milk brings prosperity to the home. 7. Plan Meals For The Priests After Griha Pravesh Puja

After all the puja, serve food to the priest and other guests and take their blessings and good wishes. Set up self-service in the outer seating or in the hall. However, depending on the weather, be prepared for rain or heat and make the necessary arrangements. Assign someone to this task a week in advance. Decide on a menu with the chef, create a shopping list, and request that the grocery store deliver directly to the farmhouse. You should be completely focused on the auspicious day's puja. Pack all of the serveware and dinnerware ahead of time and place it in the kitchen.
